THE VISION

THE APPROACH

THE PROCESS

Our vision is based on the principle that Architecture, Interiors and Gardens are all intrinsically connected. Form, Function and Aesthetics as one. This is what Dwellingpoint Design is all about.

Imagine a house in a rural setting, a pasture on one side and a vineyard on the other. The approach is dramatic. A stone wall delineates the property entry followed by a long driveway of decomposed granite that gives a satisfying sound under the weight of the car. Flanking the drive are dense plantings of English lavender subtly scenting the air that lead to massive oak and sycamore trees that obscure the view of the dwelling, but then the trees give way to reveal a spectacular modern farmhouse. Rustic, inviting and intriguing.

The classic lines of the house are punctuated with the raw materials like concrete and steel and softened by nature. Rusted steel, corrugated panels, board formed concrete all contrast and coordinate with a bold palate and pleasing silhouette of the home and the garden that surround it. You are only 400 feet off the road, but are in a whole different world. Sight, sound and scent, welcome to the experience of great design.

Our vision is simple: Beautiful, stimulating and practical spaces. Everywhere.
Every property is unique with a unique set of requirements. From the vineyard owner who is looking to expand his winery and wants a dramatic tasting room to the urbanite who wants to build his weekend oasis away from the noise of city life to the restauranteur who wants to create a hip and cozy space to be the backdrop for his great food to the suburban dweller, who is tired of a just a yard and wants a garden. Their needs, all very different. Their desires, all the same - to create a beautiful and individual space.

We look at the uniqueness of each project and incorporate features from the existing environment into the desired environment. We learn the persona of the owner, the way they live, work and function then relate that back to the design. The dream kitchen with the wood-fired bread oven and pull-out flour bins for the client whose passion is baking. A garden cottage with an observation deck above the water tower for the writer who needs a quite place of inspiration to spend hours a day creating.

We ask questions of the clients; the easy ones like how many bedrooms or do you want a pool, and the hard ones such as does this make practical sense for the way you live and in the end we ask ourselves what is the best solution to the multi-faceted task of creating great spaces. Our approach is thoughtful, comprehensive and inclusive. Every detail is important.

We start with a meeting, informal and relaxed- it's more about hearing what you want than selling who we are. During this meeting we cover the basics - what, where, how, how much, when. Lots of questions are asked and if possible we like this meeting to take place in the space. The next step involves us spending time researching and conceptualizing. At the end of this phase we will meet again, this time to show research materials and tear-sheets and discuss budgets. As the process progresses we then begin to take the design into the realm of paper with sketches or illustrations or rough Architectural drawings which end up being the beginnings of your project.

At the completion of the conceptual phase, we will meet again and discuss the design, make notes for revisions or changes, discuss in broad detail about use of certain materials and finishes. Once the concepts are approved, we move forward into the full design phase in which all details will be addressed and a complete set of design plans will be generated. Upon approval of the design plans we then will ready the plans for building or installation or submission.

Throughout the building or installation of a project we make numerous site visits and are very hands-on. We work closely and scrupulously with contractors and devote ourselves to providing you with a well-executed final product.
